Help/POS and Inventory/Sell at the till

Sell at the till

Scan or tap what the customer is buying, then take the money. Stock comes off the location the till sells from, and the sale goes into your books.

Set up your tills

A till is one screen that sells, from one location. You start with one called Till 1. To rename it or add another, go to Inventory, then Settings, then Tills, and press Edit or Add till. Answer Which location does it sell from?

The same Settings page decides a few things about selling:

Only the owner or a co-owner can change these settings.

Fill the cart

  1. Go to POS, then Till. Check the till at the top; the line next to it says which location it Sells from.

  2. Scan a barcode, or search by name, SKU or barcode, or tap an item. The category chips narrow the list. An item with sizes asks which one, and shows how many are left of each.

Twelve roses, a vase and a card in the cart.
  3. Change a quantity with − and +, or type it. Press × to take a line out.

  4. Selling something that is not an item, such as delivery or gift wrapping? Press Typed line, say what it is, and give a price. A typed line takes nothing off your stock.

  5. To give the customer a receipt by email, press Attach customer and pick someone you already have, or type a new name and email. A new name is filed in your contacts.

The cart is kept on this device if you leave the page, so a half-finished sale is still there when you come back.

Prices and discounts

When cashiers may change prices, each line has a price box and a Less % box, and the cart has Discount on the whole sale. The receipt and your sales report show the price that was charged.

Take the money

  1. Press Charge. Take payment shows the Amount due and what is still to pay.

  2. Choose how they pay: Cash, PayNow, Card, Bank transfer or Other. You can mix them, such as part cash and part card.

    • Cash: tap Exact or a note, or type the Cash handed over and press Add cash. The change to give is worked out.
    • PayNow: a QR code appears for the exact amount. The customer scans and pays. When your bank shows the money, press the button that says the customer has paid, such as Customer has paid S$85.50.
    • Card: take the card on your own terminal, then record the amount and, if you like, the last four digits.
S$100 cash for an S$85.50 sale: S$14.50 change.
  3. Press Complete sale. Sale done shows the sale number, the total and the change to give.

The sale is saved, the stock has come off, and the receipt is ready.

Not enough in stock? If the stock count says this location does not have enough, you see Some of this is not in stock here. If the items are in the customer’s hands, the count is out: press Sell anyway and put it right later with a stock take.

The receipt

Press Print receipt, or type the customer’s email and press Email receipt. If a customer with an email is attached, the receipt is sent to them by itself. The receipt is a web page they can open on their phone, print, or save as a PDF. If you are GST-registered, it is headed Tax Invoice so it counts for their own GST claim.

Questions

Does the till work with a barcode scanner?

Yes. A scanner that types the code and presses Enter works on the till, as long as nobody is typing in a box at that moment.

The PayNow code does not appear.

Set your PayNow number in Invoicing settings first. The till uses the same one.

The connection dropped as I pressed Complete sale.

Press it again. A sale is only ever saved once, so the customer is not charged twice.

A sale says it has not reached my books yet.

The sale is saved. Press Try again on the sale, and it is added to your P&L and stock.

I rang up the wrong thing.

Void it the same day, or take the items back with a return. See voids and returns.
